  • May 31st at 3pm - "Commemoration of Patriot Israel Warner" -
at the Big Woods Cemetery adjacent to the Big Woods Church in Aurora, near Warrenville

The grave of Israel Warner was discovered by our former chapter President Don Parrish in June 2007. Since then a group of a half a dozen patriotic, civic and genealogical organizations have been meeting under the leadership of our chapter President Mike Johnston to stage an impressive ceremony on the 240th anniversary of Israel Warner's birth.

Israel entered the army when he was 9 and served for 6 years -- the remainder of the war. His father, Col. Seth Warner, was a hero in the Revolution, a man so esteemed by General George Washington that he personally road to the Colonel's home after his death and paid off the mortgage from his own funds. We even have the touching newspaper record of the event including the dialog between Washington and Israel Warner.

Israel is buried with his daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons, both of whom died as a result of their service in the Civil War. This will be a mega event and five new grave markers will be dedicated. All compatriots are urged to attend this significant event.

  • September 13th - "Revolutionary War Battle Recreation" - Cantigny Park in Winfield

This is the classic opportunity to see how Revolutionary War soldiers lived in camp and see a re-creation of a battle with over 100 re-enactors. It is a perennial favorite of our members.

We will have an informal picnic starting at noon and concluding by 1:00pm. This will give us time to explore the encampment and see the battle. You are welcome to bring friends and family. There is no cost for this event except for the parking fee at Cantigny Park.

To find the Fox Valley SAR compatriots take the left (north) parking lot and drive to the end (east). We will have a picnic table with the SAR table flags. Click for a pdf map of Cantigny.

This is a unique opportunity to experience a battle of the Revolutionary War. Don't miss it. You can either bring food and drink with you or you can purchase them at Cantigny.
